Behind the Scenes of the USA Pavilion
The heart and soul of the USA Pavilion springs from many sources. It derives from the founders, the devoted staffers and volunteers, and the supportive sponsors.
Without the backing of such companies as Johnson & Johnson, PepsiCo, GE, Chevron, and Citi, and unwavering energy from the Pavilion team, Expo visitors would not have known the joy of the USA Pavilion, or the many faces who have brought smiles to millions for 184 straight days.
The Chairman of the USA Pavilion Steering Committee shares his thoughts on the USA Pavilion and Expo 2010 Shanghai
In the early morning rain of November 16, 2009, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton took a side trip from accompanying President Barack Obama to China to visit a construction site in Shanghai. Her visit was not to just any building site, but to the final phase of construction of the USA National Pavilion for the 2010 Shanghai Exposition. Secretary Clinton stood at the site, promoting America's participation in the event, and thanking sponsors and individuals for their help in getting the Pavilion project off the ground.
The Chinese in America – We are Family
The Committee of 100, in addition to being a Strategic Partner and a Premier Sponsor of the USA Pavilion, has created an exhibit for the USA Pavilion titled “The Chinese in America – We are Family.”
Using all forms of media and the Internet, the Committee of 100 wanted to rally everyone in America of Chinese descent to submit their photos to a video wall to reflect their pride in their heritage and in America. Photos will be organized on the wall by Chinese surname – to create a bond with those having the same name among Expo visitors in China.
This has provided a unique opportunity for all Chinese in America – all ages, all occupations, with different origins, USA born or from all parts of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau – to come together for a shared endeavor for the expo and beyond.
For the USA Pavilion, “The Chinese in America” exhibit will reflect the uniqueness of America as a land welcoming diversity and offering opportunity for all.
