Hu Renyi was born in Suzhou, now teaches at the School of Visual Arts in New York, USA and spend half of his time in NYC and half in Shanghai. Hu has held solo shows and participated in many group shows in the US and China. In his early work, he used a palette of bright colors to depict cartoon-like, comical figures in settings of the Suzhou gardens and villas. The nostalgia of his hometown and his experience of the contemporary arts are expressed in contradictions and harmony at the same time.
