Nintendo seems intent on keeping Kirby in vogue with the upcoming release of Kirby’s Dream Buffet, an all-new downloadable title that’ll be launching on the Switch eShop this summer.
The multiplayer title, which was announced by Nintendo earlier today, seems to take a bit of inspiration from Fall Guys and asks up to four players to cascade around barmy levels wolfing down scran in a bid to become an absolute chonk.
At the end of each level, the Kirby that’s managed to scoff the most food will win, and players will be able to take advantage of numerous power-ups to ensure their insatiable blob comes out on top.
2022 has been a bumper year for Kirby, with 3D platformer Kirby and the Forgotten Land selling 2.65 million copies worldwide as of March 31, 2022.
That figure is based on Nintendo’s own internal estimates, released as part of its latest fiscal report, and is an impressive milestone given the title only launched on March 25, 2022.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land managed to drum up plenty of interest ahead of launch thanks to the introduction of a new “Mouthful Mode” mechanic that gave Kirby the ability to become the physical embodiment of everyday objects — such as cars and vending machines — by ingesting them with a frightening level of exuberance.
