The Kia EV4: Everything You Need to Know

Kia has a Tesla Model 3-killer in the works.

Kia has already been making big strides into the EV space, having launched the EV6 and EV9 electric crossovers. One of the next electric vehicles to arrive from the brand will be the Kia EV4, which looks to be a rival for the Tesla Model 3. Kia previewed it in concept form at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of 2023, but a production version seems all but assured given the carmaker’s commitment to going electric.

Here’s what we know about the Kia EV4 so far.

What is the Kia EV4?

The Kia EV4 is a compact four-door vehicle. Kia is calling it a sedan with “attributes reminiscent of sports and racing cars.” It should ride on the same E-GMP platform as other Kia, Hyundai and Genesis vehicles. We suspect it will have single and dual-motor variants, much like other E-GMP products.

What do we know about its power and range?

Kia has not yet provided details about how much power or range the EV4 will offer. The EV6 offers powertrains that make 167, 225, 320 or 576 horsepower; we’d imagine the smaller EV4 will land somewhere in the lower half of that (very broad) range.

Korean Car Blog speculates that the EV4 may receive a down-rated 400V electric architecture and lithium iron phosphate batteries to help keep the cost down. That could reduce range versus the likes of the EV6, but we’d expect at least an EPA-rated range of 250 miles to be competitive.

What will the Kia EV4’s interior be like?

Kia did provide a few details on the “cocoon-like” interior of the EV4. The concept version has a removable HVAC control panel that can be stored away in the center console. The interior also makes use of sustainable materials like natural dyes and recycled cotton.

How much will the EV4 cost?

Kia CEO Ho Sung Song told Automotive News that Kia needs “a full lineup of EVs at various price points.” Per that report, the EV4 is expected to be priced between $35,000 and $50,000.

Will Kia bring it to America?

Kia has not confirmed that the EV4 will come to America. But the brand revealed the concept on its American media site — typically a good sign that the car is being considered for sale in the U.S. (Kia notably left the related EV5 concept that debuted at the same time out of its American press release.)

When will the EV4 arrive?

We don’t have a firm timeline yet for when the Kia EV4 will arrive. Car and Driver is currently projecting it will be a 2026 model year vehicle. According to the Korean Car Blog, the EV4 will debut in early 2025

Kia EV4

Kia unveiled the Concept EV4, which should be the precursor to a production EV4 sedan. It will have sporty, low-slung styling and start at an affordable price point.
